Silly Season

Friday began what is affectionately known as the “silly season” in Utah.  The political season.  Friday was the first day for prospective candidates to actually file for office. The week-long window of opportunity ends on the 19th and so for the next week, we’ll all be waiting to see who actually files for office and who bows out. Senator Bennett filed, and had a big event with Mitt Romney to celebrate.  Kevin Garn chose to bow out and resign, making national news in the process. Who said politics wasn’t fun. C’mon, naked hot tub parties?

I happen to like Senator Bennett so I for one am glad he’s running again. I know that there are many who think his time has come and that perhaps we need new blood.  But I’m not convinced and think the reasons to keep him in office far outweigh the reasons against.   Granted, there I times when I really don’t agree with his decisions or positions, but at least he’s not ashamed to defend them and state why he thinks it was best for Utah.

And besides, I really don’t think I have to worry about a naked hot tub scandal with the good Senator, and that alone my friends, may be worth a vote.

Hello world!

By way of introduction my name is Sue, and I’m a political junkie.

Being a stay at home mother of four, I’ve longed to engage in grown up conversations and have great intellectual debates regarding local, state and national politics.  The problem of course, is that politics is one of those taboo subjects which is never to be raised in polite society.  So my life has revolved instead around poopie diapers, little league ball, soccer games, science projects, church assignments and whatever limited adult conversation I could have with my husband at days end before I dropped exhausted into my waiting bed.

But with the entrance of my youngest into all day school last fall and having now finished my other “projects” that have built up the last 15 years, I find I now have time to begin my dream and hope that someone actually reads this, comments and engages my brain in thoughtful dialogue.  This is an election year, and to me, an exciting one.  There are national races, state races and even some local races that excite me and about which I hope to write.  I intend to rant, support, gripe, endorse and otherwise opine about my passion.

So…. welcome all who may enter!  I look forward to your thoughts and as the title of my blog indicates, your ideas.
